Craft Action Collective: Daytime taster sessions at Shieldfield Art Works

Craft Action Collective meets together to talk and make together. We learn new art-making techniques, whilst also thinking about injustice and hope. Usually we meet on a Tuesday evening, but during March we’re running two daytime sessions that anyone can get involved in.

If you love being creative and want to learn new techniques, we’d love you to come along. Please sign up by Thursday 12th March by emailing enquiries@saw-newcastle.org or phoning 0191 447 6811. You can sign up for one or both of the sessions – please advise of any access needs you have.

Playing with Pattern // Monday 16th March 2026 // 1:45 – 3:45pm

Join us for a creative workshop linked to the exhibition Pattern Machines, which explores mindfulness through the creation of bold visual patterns. Artist Jenny Mc Namara will lead a collage session where you can explore patterns, textures, and colour in playful and experimental ways. You’ll use Indian ink to create bold patterns, make collages inspired by your idea of a positive future, and finally combine your ink patterns with photos of local patterns and colourful materials to create a unique final artwork. Throughout the session, Jenny will encourage you to take creative risks, experiment with repetition, and play with colour theory to see patterns, colour, and texture in new ways.

Please sign up by emailing enquiries@saw-newcastle.org

Printmaking with Theresa Easton // Monday 23rd March 2026 // 1:45 – 3:45pm

Join us as we learn screenprinting together, and think about seasonality, work and rest as part of our Creating Fallow programme. Screenprinting is a technique which allows you to print beautiful hand cut shapes and images – Theresa will talk you through this easy to learn process. You don’t need any previous experience, just enthusiasm to get stuck in.
