Creating Fallow

Can rest catalyse and aid creativity and activism? Can rest be a form of resistance in a productivity-obsessed and consumerist world? Could the acknowledgement of our limitations and need for rest be a pathway to strength? Is rest accessible for all? How can rest be informed by the concept of Sabbath and a respect for seasonality and human limitations?
After the interest and engagement of our pilot exhibition ‘Sowing Creative Fallow’ where we invited participants to think through rest, its barriers and benefits, we have decided to take 24 months to actively think about rest, work and creativity.
As we approach 15 years of developing exhibitions, regular creative groups, events and publications, we want to take time to consider how rest, Sabbath, rhythm and seasonality can shape our future and become embedded in our lives and practices.
‘Creating Fallow’ aims to be a relevant and inspiring programme that works as an antidote and challenge to rushing, pressured culture. Join us for a series of creative and experimental workshops, exhibitions, writing and reflective activities.
Creating Fallow will be an ambitious and intentional programme, an overarching theme embedded in all the work we do over the next two years. This will be split into three main strands of work. To find out more about these strands, please follow the links below.
