Craft Action Collective
Craft Action Collective meets together to talk, discuss and make together. We learn new art-making techniques, whilst also thinking about injustice and hope. It’s quiet activism for everyone, including introverts, using the medium of craft to think about big issues.
Craft Action meets 6:30pm – 8pm every 1st & 3rd Tuesday of the month (except August)
Upcoming Sessions
Craft Action Collective: Printmaking
We’ll be continuing to use printmaking techniques to make posters thinking about the UN’s rights of the child and how we want to change the world to help future generations.
You are very welcome to join in even if you didn’t come along to the previous session.
Playing Out project closing workshop
As our Playing Out exhibition comes to a close, we’ll do some creative activities which will think deeply about play and celebrate everyone who has contributed to the exhibition.
We will be eating together as part of this event – please let us know if you have any dietary requirements.
This event is a collaboration between Craft Action, Playing Out and SAW Reflects
Craft Action sessions focus on using art and craft activities to think deeply and respond to injustice in a gentle and careful way. We think about stories in the news or issues that are being highlighted through SAW’s exhibitions, and be creative together. It’s quiet activism for everyone, including introverts, using the medium of craft.
The crafts we use and topics we think about are varied. Last year, we thought about: climate change and biodiversity; storytelling as an act of protest; the news and who makes decisions about which stories are headlines; the housing crisis and how to disagree well. Crafts have included: lino printing, zine making, sewing, book making, letterpress printing, and making dyes from plants.
“I have found the Craft Collective workshops so welcoming, gently challenging and personally nurturing“
